I was born in Athens in 1993, and spent my teenage years at Ioannina. I received my diploma degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens in March 2018. My master thesis, supervised by Prof. Petros Maragos, involved music composition through gestural interaction, by taking advantage of a Kinect sensor and recognizing gestures from skeletal data.
I am currently a PhD candidate in the Computer Vision, Speech Communication and Signal Processing Group in the National Technical University of Athens, under the supervision of Prof. Petros Maragos. My PhD thesis concerns how we can use music source separation (decomposing a musical piece into its consistuent vocal or instrumental sources) for representation learning of music signals, useful for general-purpose music classification tasks. During the course of my thesis, I also got involved in nationally- and EU- funded research projects covering the broad area of developing and applying appropriate machine learning methods for speech and music signals, and have (co-)authored more than 20 publications in peer-reviewed conferences and journals.
In my spare time, I enjoy hiking/travelling, playing board/computer games and discovering new music, while procrastinating on taking guitar lessons.
